Zoe’s Iridozyklitis (Uveitis)

Bebou started to have a pink eye 1-2 days after the angine (tonsilitis) symptoms at 26th of December 2016.. In the beginning she took general antiseptic drops for the eye that did not help at all. The german pediatrician recommended only natural tears for the eye (on January 3rd) that also did not help. The pink-ness of the eye continued. On January 4th, the day of the trip of amorcita and Zoe to athens and of amorcito to Paris and then Kourou, Zoe woke up with very much redness in the eye and with a lot of crying (apparently she was in pain). After the arrival in Greece, Zoe visited a pediatric hospital because it was not possible to find the expert doctors due to the holiday period. The eye doctor in the hospital found that Zoe had conjunctivitis (due to the virus that caused also the angine) and also that her cornea was in a small spot a bit blurry. She recommended Tobrex cream for the eye, which is antibiotic. After a week of 3 times per day application of the cream the eye became obviously better (application of the cream from 5th to 10th of January) but suddenly on the afternoon of 10th January, Bebou started to cry without obvious reason and her eye started to be red again. The next day Bebou was sleeping and crying without any other symptom. But Bebou looked completely exhausted. On January 12th, Zoe woke up much better in terms of power but her eye was again very bad. In the Athens Eye Clinic found that all diagnosis so far was wrong and Zoe had a much deeper problem, which is called iridozyklitis (or uveitis). According to Dr. Rallatos at the Eye Clinic (tel: 0030 210 9697000), this decease started at the first day that she had pink eye and was caused either from the virus or from eye injury (which is not the case).  After 2 hour therapy in the clinic, Zoe became immediately better, her mood came back to normal and the doctor recommended to take Maxidex (Maxidex eye drops contain the active ingredient dexamethasone. Dexamethasone belongs to a group of medicines known as corticosteroids that are used for reducing inflammation, contains cortisone) and Atropine-Sulfate ( which dilates the pupil. This effect is used in reducing pain and help inflammation to pass quicker). The doctor recommended to see Bebou every day. Bebou’s mood and energy are back to normal and we hope that the therapy will be drastic.!
